Common Questions

Quick answers while you wait.

What is the Home Help program?

The Home Help program is run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). It provides personal care assistance with daily tasks and household activities for adults who need help to stay safely at home — funded through Michigan Medicaid.

How do caregivers get paid?

Caregivers are paid through Michigan Medicaid funds. Zentra Home Care handles the enrollment and payment processing. The person receiving care has no out-of-pocket cost.

Does a caregiver need certifications?

No specialized credentials are required. Caregivers must enroll in the MDHHS CHAMPS Provider Enrollment system to receive Medicaid payments — we walk you through that step and make sure you meet all program requirements.

How old do caregivers need to be?

Caregivers must be at least 18 years old to qualify for the program.

Does Medicare count?

No. Medicare alone does not meet the state's requirements for this program. Your loved one must be enrolled in Medicaid and meet other state rules to qualify. If you have questions about your coverage, our team can help you review your options.

What's the difference between Medicaid and Medicare?

Medicare is a federal program for people who are 65 or older, or who have certain disabilities. Medicaid is for people with limited income and is run jointly by the state and federal government. The Home Help program requires Medicaid.
